Sleeping in a Drawer
by Daniel Arenson
This poem was first published in issue 14 of Flesh & Blood in 2004.
Fireflies rise
They flow they glide
a million tiny bubbles
of light and so much trouble
Blue waters and lilies part
pulsing with her heart
her eyes, brown green
staring but unseen
Goldfish swim between her hair
that’s touched with light
just over there
twinkling out of sight
Her red lips open
whispering under water
perhaps are hoping
that only someone saw her
A heroine
It is a sin
to let her sleep
in waters deep
dreaming of fireflies
and endless flowing skies
so many unknown “why”s
perhaps she dies
