Heroes and Villains of Firefly Island

The Island is home to various colorful characters.

Aeolia

Known as Lia or Aeoly for short, Aeolia is a sixteen-year-old girl. She has a round, childlike face and honey-colored eyes. Her long hair is fine, straight, and light brown. Aeolia tends to bite her lip when nervous, shrug one shoulder, and daydream. Though shy and artless, she is resourceful and brave when in danger. She is enslaved to an ogre, serving him on his remote farm. Despite a difficult life, she retains a belief in human kindness and clings to innocence.

Aeolia can magically "link" to people, letting them share all thoughts, emotions, and senses.

The name “Aeolia” (eh-YO-leeya) means “daughter of air” in Northtalk, the Northern tongue.

  Sinther

King Sinther lives deep underground, where he draws magic from the surrounding rock, turning himself to stone. His body is invulnerable; weapons break against it. By sharing all senses, pain included, only Aeolia can hurt Sinther. His heart and sanity turned to stone with his flesh, Sinther will do anything to hunt and kill his nemesis.

The name “Sinther” means “he who is strong” in Northtalk.

  Taya of Yaiyai

Eighteen years old, Taya is a Forestfellow warrior, magically able to turn into any animal. She belongs to the Yaiyai clan, and is the daughter of its shaman. As tall and strong as most men, Taya has slanted green eyes, two orange braids strewn with feathers, and a lopsided smile. She wears boars’ tusks around her neck, acorns for earrings, a mantle of fur, and doeskin leggings. Her weapons include a bone knife with an antler hilt, and a flint spear decorated with scrimshawed snail shells. Taya is brave, noble, and quick to anger.

The name “Taya” means “spirit” in Woodword.

  Roen

A denizen of Brownbury’s crowded streets, this foppish, mild-mannered painter wears embroidered sleeves, pointy shoes, and plumed hats over yellow curls. When sudden tragedies strike, Roen must abandon the comfortable life and discover inner strength.

Roen can magically heal all wounds with just a touch of his hands.

The name “Roen” means “harvest” in Northtalk.

Lale

Once handsome and carefree, Lale suffered a tragedy that disfigured his appearance and soul, leaving a burning emptiness within him. This pale, rail-thin man's sickly countenance belies strength, deadly swordsmanship, and a tantalizing charisma. Haunted by his past, Lale travels the Island on a deadly mission.

The name “Lale” means “nobility” in Northtalk.

    Ketya

Thirteen years old, this mischievous orphan lives on the streets, surviving as a cutpurse. Saucy and headstrong, she is fiercely loyal to her friends, preferring their well being to her own. She has protuberant ears, a ponytail, an impish face, and a squeaky voice.

The name “Ketya” means “daughter of light” in Northtalk.

    Joren

Joren is a pensive, gloomy young man with a dark past and a darker secret. He survived a difficult childhood and rarely smiles. He loves Aeolia and will do anything for her... even the most horrifyingly unimaginable.

The name “Joren” means “precious stone” in Northtalk.

    Talin

Laconic and battle-hardened, this half-breed outcast travels the Island hunting Lale, his old archenemy. Though somber, Talin has a soft side he shows to his close friends.

The name “Talin” means “gift” in Woodword.
